Volunteers
are the backbone
of our organization!
Our volunteers are an invaluable asset of the Center. Without our volunteers,
the children would not have their therapy sessions. We provide two volunteers
per child for every Hippotherapy session-- one to lead the horse and one to
serve as a "sidewalker."
Our volunteers also help out with the grooming and
exercising of the horses, keeping the tack clean and neat, and
fulfilling the general cleaning duties of the barn, arenas and grounds. No
experience is necessary. The only requirements are that you like to help others,
are dependable and responsible and have a positive attitude. We provide training
sessions for horse care and handling.
We also need people to help with
duties to help the every day operation of the facility to run smoothly and to
continually improve the facility. We have a list of
Volunteer Opportunities that include not
only helping during session with the children and horses, but activities that
could fit any person's expertise or interest.
On the third
Saturday of every month, we conduct our weekend "Clean Up Day"
when everyone pitches in to give the facility a
good "once-over." These events are always a lot of fun!
The
reward of volunteering
Our volunteers experience the satisfaction of knowing that they
have made a difference in a child's life. It is gratifying to see
the progress the children are making in their therapies. And, if not
for our volunteers, these kids would be denied the opportunity to
experience the benefits that can improve their Quality of Life. A desire to give back and help someone else is what drives
our volunteers. What a great group we have!
Parkwood
Farms Therapy Center, Inc. honors its volunteers in a variety of
ways. A "Volunteer of the Month" is chosen and their name is added
to our perpetual award plaque. They also receive a gift certificate to a
local merchant or some other token of our appreciation, as well as a handsome
certificate that they can frame and display with pride. Hot chocolate in the winter and lemonade in the
summer are provided, too! Holiday parties and cookouts, just for our
volunteers, are regular events.
We need you!
If you are 14 or older, have
a genuine interest in serving others, and don't mind getting a
little dirty, we need you! We have retired
seniors, school students and stay-at-home parents among our volunteer staff. We
ask that each volunteer give a minimum of an hour, the length of a session. More
time is certainly appreciated! And if just want to participate in our monthly
"Volunteer Work Day," there's no age restriction at all-- if you're under 14 we
require that your parent or guardian work along side you.
Below is our current session schedule (updated
09/12/2006). This is
changed frequently
as we add new students.
